University Training Center Project Update
July 2020
The Rural Education and Workforce Alliance (REWA) is excited to announce the Grand Opening/Ribbon Cutting of the University/Training Center that will take place on August 5th from 4-6pm.
Final touches are being made with construction and furniture is being installed in the REWA office and large classroom. The University of Kansas’ Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) has began moving into their office and classroom space. With the program commitments from Fort Hays State University’s (FHSU) Master of Social Work and RN to BSN Program, we will be launching these programs in August 2020.
The Bachelor of Nursing Program is for any individual that has their RN and wants to continue on for their BSN. This RN to BSN will be two years long with ten 8-week courses through Fort Hays State University. The program will be a blended mix of in-person and online coursework. The students will be able to have face to face communication once a week or through Zoom technology at new frontier classrooms that we have set-up in Elkhart, Tribune, Scott City, Jetmore, and St. John. We have also just recently added Garden City. Additional classrooms will be added depending on enrollment. There is still time to enroll.
The Community Housing Association of Dodge City (CHAD) will be hosting a series of home maintenance classes for the public. The “How To Series: Home Maintenance Edition” classes will focus on teaching the basic skills you need to maintain your home and the knowledge to know when it’s time to call a professional. The classes will be free to the public, offered in the evening at the newly remodeled University/Training Center.
The Rural Education and Workforce Alliance has sponsorship opportunities to feature 3 benches and 3 picnic tables that can be personalized with your family or business name on it outside the entrance of the University/Training Center to allow for people to have a place to take a phone call, have lunch or study. Sponsorship will be on a first come first serve basis. Each bench or table will have a prominently displayed plaque with the donors name on it. These items will be a permanent fixture at the University/Training Center for many years. You can choose from a bench or picnic table at $1500. We would appreciate your support to make the University/Training Center a place people want to attend to receive higher education and workforce training.
Additionally, we have sponsorship opportunities for the naming rights of the small and large classroom that are now complete at the University/Training Center. If you are interested in naming rights for one of the classrooms, please contact Joann Knight or Kyla Keller at 620-227-9501.
This project is being made possible through funding in part by the USDA Rural Business Development Grant, USDA Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant, the Arthur and Cornelia Scroggins Foundation Fund at the Community Foundation of Southwest Kansas and the Kansas Health Foundation.
This Institution is an equal opportunity provider.
