University/Training Center December 2020 Update
December 2020
The Rural Education and Workforce Alliance (REWA) has had a successful few months since the Grand Opening of the University/Training Center. Fort Hays State University (FHSU) Bachelor of Social Work and Bachelor of Nursing began classes in the large classroom. The University of Kansas’ Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) is moved into their space and beginning classes in January.
Students have face-to-face communication once a week or through Zoom technology at new frontier classrooms that are set-up in Elkhart, Tribune, Scott City, Jetmore, and St. John. We have also just recently added Garden City. Additional classrooms will be added depending on enrollment.
REWA is excited to announce that the Community Foundation of Southwest Kansas generously granted the organization $25,000 for 2021 operating expenses. We are so thankful for the continued support from the Community Foundation.
REWA is hosting a series of business classes for the public. The “How to Series: Business Edition” classes focus on teaching the basic skills you need to maintain a business. The classes are free to the public and the first class, Steps to Become a Childcare Provider was launched in November.
The Community Housing Association of Dodge City (CHAD) is hosting a series of home maintenance classes for the public. The “How To Series: Home Maintenance Edition” classes focus on teaching the basic skills you need to maintain your home and the knowledge to know when it’s time to call a professional. The classes are free to the public, offered in the evening at the newly remodeled University/Training Center.
The Rural Education and Workforce Alliance has sponsorship opportunities to feature 3 benches and 3 picnic tables that can be personalized with your family or business name on it outside the entrance of the University/Training Center to allow for people to have a place to take a phone call, have lunch or study. Sponsorship will be on a first come first serve basis. Each bench or table will have a prominently displayed plaque with the donor’s name on it. These items will be a permanent fixture at the University/Training Center for many years. You can choose from a bench or picnic table for $1500. We would appreciate your support to make the University/Training Center a place people want to attend to receive higher education and workforce training.
Additionally, we have sponsorship opportunities for the naming rights of the small and large classroom at the University/Training Center. If you are interested in naming rights for one of the classrooms, please contact Joann Knight or Kyla Keller at 620-227-9501.
This project is being made possible through funding in part by the USDA Rural Business Development Grant, USDA Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant, the Arthur and Cornelia Scroggins Foundation Fund at the Community Foundation of Southwest Kansas and the Kansas Health Foundation.
This Institution is an equal opportunity provider.
